Meet Our Rector
Home

The Rev. R. William Carroll, Ph.D.

Sisters and brothers,
dearly beloved,

I am very grateful and excited to accept the call to serve as your next rector! There will be time for longer introductions in the April parish newsletter, but here are some of the basics. I am a native of Southern California. I am married to Tracey, who is also a priest. We have both served parishes in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. We have two children. Rachel is seven. Danny is four. For the past three years, I have served on the faculty of our seminary in Sewanee, Tennessee, helping to educate and form lay and ordained leaders for the Episcopal Church. My responsibilities will keep me here through early May. My first Sunday at Good Shepherd will be the Sixth Sunday of Easter (May 21), and I can't wait to be with you.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you. I have been praying for you since this process began and have asked Glenda to send me the parish prayer list and directory, so that I may begin to do so by name. I ask that you pray for me and my family as we prepare to make the move to Athens. Good Shepherd is a wonderful parish, where God is doing wonderful things. I am delighted to be your new priest. May God bless each of you, and may God bless our ministry together.

In Christ,

Bill
