Christian education is an important part of our life at Good Shephard. The core of our Christian Education program takes place Sunday morning; Adult Ed Hour at 9:00 and Children’s Sunday School at 10:15. This is complemented by various seasonal programs and other learning opportunities including Bible study, about prayer, our Episcopal heritage and music, stewardship, confirmation, some youth/college programs, and Cursillo.
There is much in this general area Christian education that we are still working to accomplish. We welcome your questions and suggestions. For more on about our activities please browse Ministries.

Nursery Good Shephard offers quality child care for younger children whose parents are attending worship. The nursery is available for children under three years during the 10:30 a.m. service. The Nursery is located on the lower level of the Church (Nehls Hall). The Nursery attendant is Jessica Smith Fox (Office 593-6877; Home 767-4185) Sunday School (K-6) The Sunday School gathers at 10:15 a.m. on the lower level of the Church (Nehls Hall). Our Sunday School Teacher is Liz Sinclair (Office 593-6877; Home 591-7148). The class is using the curriculum “Celebrate the Good News; Children’s Chapel”. This includes discussion reflecting on that Sunday’s story of the Gospel, singing, and fun hands on activities related to the Gospel. Then the Sunday School group joins their parents in the congregation upstairs at 11:15 a.m. during the “Peace”. Liz will be completing her School Counseling Masters this Winter 2005. She was a camp counselor in her younger years, moved on to be a Teacher for the Severe Behaviorally Handicapped, and is currently working full time as a Service and Support Specialist for The Athens County Board of Mentally Retarded Developmentally Disabled. She has been a member of the Church since she was three years old. We encourage all parents to take their children to worship, (or some portion of the service) and to feel free to come and go during the service to meet their children's needs. Children are part of our community and we welcome them as full participants in our common life. Adult On Sunday mornings, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Adult Ed Hour meets on the lower level of the Church (Nehls Hall). Over the long run discussion topics vary depending on needs and interest. Currently the aim is to have programs on "Our Heritage in Worship and Music" on the first and third Sundays. The second Sunday is about ministry in the community presented by the "Focus on Hunger" Committee. The topic is "Stewardship" on the fourth Sunday. On Thursdays, 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. there is Contemplative Prayer in the Bishop Black Chapel and sometimes Bible Study in the Hobson Lounge at other times on Thursday. Please consult the Calendar for details. In the Spring there is an Inquirer's Class for those interested in Confirmation or Reception in the Episcopal Church. The Inquirers' class is open to anyone interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church's doctrine, practice, history, and life (that is, what we believe and do, where we began, and how the church is organized). This class meets on Sundays for five weeks, beginning about 11:45 a.m. (after church) and ending at 1:00 p.m.
