TOUR

Built in 1952-53, the church is of red brick in a simple colonial style matching the surrounding University buildings. The building is hard to photograph in the summer.

Side entrance to offices and Hobson Lounge; Episcipal House (rented to students)

College Green area (old campus) of Ohio University. Good Shepherd is located in the center of this photo (white steeple). This taken from a panoramic view of Ohio University and the town of Athens (Use 'back' on your browser to return).

Memorial Garden/Columbarium

The nave is simply finished with a small balcony (front entrance to building) and a large arch separating it from the chancel. The organ - a 1954 Aeolian Skinner instrument of 12 ranks, designed by G. Donald Harrison - is located on the right of the chancel, with the console on the opposite side. The altar is located along the back wall of the sanctuary (for some services a table is moved forward and used as the alter).

This commons area on the lower floor was named as a sign of love for Julia J. Nehls, who has been a member of Good Shepherd for over fifty years and who has labored tirelessly in every leadership capacity.

Bishop Black Chapel is used for the 8:00 a.m. Eucharists and other services. The wonderful altar piece was carved by John Rood who was a professor of Sculpture at Ohio University. Nehls Hall (already pictured), two small classrooms, a small office area, furnace room, storage areas, a full kitchen and public bathrooms are located on the lower floor, as well as the Bishop Black Chapel.

The Bishop Hobson Lounge, used for meetings of many church committees, also contains a small library. Also located on this floor are three offices (for the rector, secretary, and music director) and a half bath.
