| Former Presiding Bishop Edmond L. Browning visited Ohio University
and The Church of the Good Shepherd from Friday May 15th until Monday May
18th. While he was here he visited the APAC Bargain Furniture Store
in The Plains, had a smorgasbord luncheon at Epiphany Church, Nelsonville,
saw for himself the work being done at ReUse Industries which received
$20,000 in grants from the Presiding Bishop’s Fund, met the Executive Director
of The Episcopal Community Services Foundation and also Director of Development
for the Diocese, spoke with students in our Canterbury group, met several
foreign students, sampled the delights of the International Street Fair,
signed books at the Little Professor Book Store (sold out), gave an interview
for ACTV-7, participated as chief panelist at our Deanery Forum, met with
university administrators, made a presentation at a university/community
breakfast gathering, attended a class at the school of journalism, was
given a tour of the ATCO Sheltered Workshop, and sat in on the Board of
Directors meeting with the Superintendent of the County Board of Mental
Retardation. On his own, he sought out students at “Palmerfest,” read several
copies of local newspapers for background information, and said “hello”
to the mayor. As guest of President and Mrs. Glidden he stayed in the Claire
Cottage behind the church where he was able to watch TV (Michael Jordan
and the Bulls), and was most graciously accommodated. All this gave him
a deep appreciation for the extensive activity and vitality present in
our community. |
