The Right Reverend Steven Charleston is currently Chaplain of Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to assuming this ministry on April 1, 1996, Bishop Charleston was the diocesan bishop of the Episcopal Church for Alaska.
Bishop Charleston is a graduate of Trinity College, receiving his B.A. degree in Religion in 1971. His graduate training was in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the episcopal Divinity School. In 1992, he received a Doctor of Divinity from Trinity in recognition of his outstanding leadership, especially in regard to the Native American community.
Steven Charleston is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma,
one of the orignial five tribes removed to Oklahoma on the "Trail of
Tears." He has spent most of his adult ministry working within the
context of multi-cultural communities. Bishop Charleston has been the
national executive for Native American ministry with the Episcopal Church;
he was also Director of Cross-cultural Studies and tenured as Associate
Professor of Systematic Theology at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul,
Minnesota. He has traveled and spoken internationally on issues
relating to people of color, especially indigenous peoples' rights. His
teaching and writing has been in the field of Native theology and spirituality.
Bishop Charleston, his wife Susan, and their son Nick
reside in Hartford, Connecticut.........

The committee on Resolutions for the 124th Convention received
five resolutions by the 60-day deadline.
R98-1 is a response to our work last year with resolution R97-9 regarding
the funding for diocesan programs for the years 2000-2004.
R98-2 is a resolution to change the name of the Diocesan Ecumenical
Relations Commission to the Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations commission.
R98-3 revisits the question of mountain top removal and valley fill
mining permits.
R98-4 seeks to declare 1999 as the International Year of Older Persons.
R98-5 is a resolution that comes from the General Convention of the
national church on our responsibilities regarding personal financial gain.
