NEW AND HIGHLIGHTED ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY: The next Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting will be Tuesday, March 9th, at the home of Lois Wagner.
WEDNESDAY LENTEN PROGRAM: Beginning the week after Ash Wednesday (3/10, 3/17, 3/24), we are meeting each Wednesday evening during Lent from 5:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. (Choir rehearsal has been moved and starts promptly at 7:15 p.m.) After a brief service of evening prayer, we will share a simple soup supper. An offering will be collected toward the outreach committee's fundraising goal for 2010. After dinner, there will be a group Bible study on the Acts of the Apostles. This is part of the recommended curriculum for the common ministry program.
SECOND SUNDAY BRUNCH: The next Second Sunday Brunch/Potluck will take place Sunday, March 14th, following the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist. Please bring a dish to share. All are welcome to share a festive hour of food and fellowship. If you have questions, please contact Sharon Huge (huge@ohio.edu).
THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is available throughout the year but is especially appropriate during Lent. Please make an appointment with one of the clergy if you wish to make a confession. In the Episcopal Church, sacramental confession is an optional discipline. Some make it a regular part of their walk with God. Others make use of it when they find themselves especially distant from God or their neighbor. The rule of thumb is "all may, none must, some should." The form used begins on p. 447. All confessions are held in absolute confidence, and the priest is to provide "counsel, direction, and comfort," as well as absolution and assurance of forgiveness.
“OUTREACH” COFFEE: We are now buying our “outreach” coffee from a local supplier, Silverbridge Coffee in Gallipolis. Like the Bishop’s Blend Coffee which was shipped in from Seattle, this coffee is Fair Trade and organically grown. But Silverbridge delivers it to the church, so we get a better price and we have more profits for outreach. By dealing locally, we are also supporting a local business.
SEEING THE LIGHT: Please remember to bring in your burned out fluorescent light bulbs to be recycled. These bulbs save energy, but they also contain mercury which must be kept out of the environment. The recycled bulbs are returned to the factory and the mercury is removed and reused.
KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM: If you are new to Good Shepherd, you might not know that we are in a program with Kroger’s where they will pay us up to 5% of what you spend there for participating in their Community Rewards Program. There is no charge for you to participate. If you would like more information, please see Jack Flemming
